Discipline 🤝 Self-Respect

In today’s blog, let’s uncover how discipline and self-respect go hand in hand, and how cultivating both can lead to a life of authenticity, success, and personal satisfaction.
Discipline provides the structure and guidance needed to achieve our goals.
Self-respect serves as a foundation for healthy self-esteem and a strong sense of worth.

So, what is discipline?

Discipline is making the conscious effort to stick to rules or routines and aligning them with our values and goals.
True discipline stems from a deep understanding of our goals and the commitment to consistently take steps toward achieving them.
It requires self-control, determination, and a willingness to endure temporary discomfort for long-term rewards.

And now, what is self-respect?

Self-respect is the regard and esteem we hold for ourselves.
It consists of everything from setting boundaries to treating ourselves with kindness, looking after our mental health and wellbeing to honouring our needs and values.

By increasing discipline and self-respect, you will:
⭐ Increase your inner strength, resilience and self-respect

⭐ Increase determination and focus

⭐ Increase personal responsibility

⭐ Eliminate procrastination and distractions

⭐ Discover a new level of authenticity

⭐ Build self-trust by following through on commitments

⭐ Have the confidence to set and enforce boundaries

⭐ Gain clarity on who you are and where you want to go

To me, it is the whole chicken and egg scenario all over again.
By having high levels of self-respect, you are more likely to be disciplined.
And by being disciplined, you are more likely to have self-respect.

When navigating your new-found relationship with discipline and self-respect, is important to remember self-compassion.
There will be times that you fail, that you slip up or set goals that were probably a little too unrealistic.
And that’s okay!
Don’t shame yourself when these things happen, be kind, understanding, compassionate and empathetic toward yourself.

Use these discipline and self-respect tools and resources to nurture yourself and your life, not as a form of punishment…
(for example, the discipline and self-respect action of exercising… use exercise as a form of nurturing your mind and body rather than a form of punishment)

Also a little side note: If you find that you constantly slip up, it might be that you are out of alignment of your values or that you are not connected to the ‘end goal’. Have a little audit of those two areas, you may need to visit your values and goals and re-jig things.

Next time, we will be talking tactics of how to build discipline through cultivating positive habits.
Discipline builds healthy positive habits and eliminates shitty ones - keep your eyes peeled for our next post expanding on habits.

For now, welcome to your new relationship with discipline and here’s to your rapid increase in self-respect.

I am so excited to see where this goes for you and am absolutely rooting for you.
