How do you create an abundant money mindset?
☆ Controversial opinion: money DOES in fact buy happiness… ☆
There, I said it!
And I wholeheartedly agree and will stick to it.
I can 100% agree and understand that we need to be able to be happy with the bear minimum in life and should not base our happiness on external factors.
However, on the flipside, I believe that in order to be happy, we need to have a solid foundation of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health and that although a lot can be done for free, there are external factors that come into play with this that come with a cost.
- having a roof over our head to fulfil our need for security
- paying for sneakers in order to go for a walk or run
- participating in fun hobbies which mostly cost money
- buying (healthy) food which can be more pricey
- becoming educated and enrolling in courses, workshops and mentorships
There is a need for money and by fulfilling our human needs (one being financial security) we can lead a healthier and more fulfilling life which in turn, leads to a happier life.
We all sometimes need to stop and review how our money mindset affects other areas of life.
Are you letting ‘luxuries’ determine your worth?
Are you constantly in a state of ‘lack’ or ‘scarcity’ toward money and having it affect your mental health?
Are you allowing money to control your happiness rather than allowing it to amplify your happiness?
Are you creating a belief that there isn’t enough money or that you are unworthy of money?
Having an abundant mindset around money allows you to see money in a different light.
For some people, abundance means to be on the road toward becoming a millionaire with a luxury car, expensive house, regular holidays and boujee bags.
For others, it means to live comfortably and be able to go out for dinner, buy new clothes and food shop without overthinking every purchase.
And for others, it means to be able to afford food, bills and rent.
It doesn’t matter where you are sitting on this spectrum, creating an abundant mindset toward money is (weirdly) going to bring in more money, increase your confidence around receiving money and limit fear and overwhelm around money challenges.
Here are 5 tips to start your journey into creating an abundant mindset toward money.
01
Notice your Focus
What we focus on expands - are you focusing on how much money you DO have or the lack of money?
Whichever one is currently taking up your focus is going
Start to focus on the money you do have and the fact it is always coming in.
02
Limit Negative Beliefs
Money is literally being printed every second of every day - there is no shortage of it.
You are so deserving of all the money in the world.
Money is a tool and form of trade/exchange which used to be done using goods - I will give you flour if you can give me butter. I will give you apples if you give me three gold coins. I will give you a hug if you give me love.
You do not need to be frugal to have more money - the more abundant you are, the more you will receive.
03
Avoid Comparison to Others
Every single person has a different financial situation.
Two people with the same job and wage can have two entirely different budgets, bills, financial beliefs or family situations.
Keep in your lane and focus on your life, your financials and your mindset - comparing only leads to mental stress.
04
Create a Growth Mindset
By developing a growth mindset - we can focus on expanding, growing, developing and seeing the bigger picture.
We are able to see (financial) success more clearly and know that regardless of our financial position, good things are coming from our experiences.
05
Change Your Upbringing
If you look back and notice that your parents/caregivers had a scarcity mindset around money, that could be where you have got yours from too.
We model those who have taught us (even when it can be detrimental!) - it is time to break the cycle, ignore your upbringing and not adopt the beliefs of those around you.
Money is one of the number one stressors for a lot of people.
If you can create an abundant money mindset, you are going to take money off your ‘stress list’ and allow so much more room for happiness, enjoyment and health.
